Generally, capability of this institution was a product of dynamic experiences through hard labor in working with the communities and partner agencies through the special projects and its regular programs, projects and services. To carry out the goal, purpose, and objectives of any developmental projects; among others, REESFI can provide services through its skills and field of expertise as the following;
Community Organizing and Community Development - Aside from the special projects which always have this component, CO-CD is a regular undertaking of the foundation as a development partner of the Philippine Benevolent Missionaries Association (PBMA) Inc. and resource institution of the cooperatives in Dinagat Island through the Dinagat Island Federation of Cooperatives (DIFECO). Inherent to this is the conduct of various training, seminar and workshops such us; Interpersonal Service Effectiveness and Personal Management Enhancement, Team Building & Vision Setting, Operational/Strategic Development Planning, Organizational Assessment and Sustainability Planning, Participatory Rural Appraisal, Community-Based Project Management, Community-Based Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Basic Bookkeeping and Auditing or Accounting for Non-accountant, and other related activities identified by the clients/beneficiaries on strengthening and institutionalization of the community organizations.
Community Development for Health - The foundation has an evolutionary experience in developing this capability through its partnership with the Department of Health (DOH) on special projects. Its concept, approaches, and processes was internalized through the Philippine Health Development Project-Partnership for Community Health Development (PHDP-PCHD) then enhanced through the Integrated Community Health Service Project-Australian Assisted (ICHSP-AA) project. These experiences provide the opportunity for the foundation to innovate preventive and promotive approaches for community health that would complement the socio-economic status of its clients/beneficiaries. Specifically, skills developed are related to Community Organizing for Health (Family Health Clustering, Community Health Management Council), Community -based Health Referral System, Rural Health Infrastructure support/facilities (sanitary toilets, potable water systems, Barangay Health Station), Two-way Health Referral facilities (two-way radio communications, sea-ambulance), and community initiatives on Health Savings, Botica sa Barangay, Herbal (household-based), vegetable garden (communal), Community Health Education and enhancement trainings of Community Volunteer Health Workers in coordination with the Rural Health Units and Provincial Health Office.
Family Planning & Natural Health - Complementing the community development for health, the foundation through its modest corner is also providing services on natural/traditional medicine like reflexology, traditional healing, natural health counseling, and first aid services. It also provide family planning service through its partnership with the Family Planning Organization of the Philippines (FPOP) Surigao del Norte/City Chapter. ,
4. Cooperative Development - Cooperative is considered as the flagship program of the foundation. It is a mechanism for the sustainability of the projects and interventions provided to the communities. Of this capability, REESFI operates through its regular program called "Prosperity and Righteousness through Cooperative Help-PRORICH". Facilitated the organization of 34 primary cooperatives and Dinagat Island Federation of Cooperatives-DIFECO. REESFI has a national accreditation of Cooperative Development Authority (CDA). CDA authorized REESFI to conduct inspection/assessment, monitoring, validation, and make recommendation on the registration and status of the cooperatives in Dinagat Island . Through the Municipal Cooperative Development Councils it also facilitates annual forum of cooperatives. Recently, its client cooperatives all over the country formed a "National Alliance of REESFI Accredited Cooperatives (NARACO)".
Micro-enterprise, Credit and cooperative finance management - The foundation is assisting cooperatives which mostly are on consumer and credit services. It is among its regular and routine services provided for the cooperatives through workshop/training, coaching/tutoring, auditing, and annual submission of their financial statements. This expertise was earned while working with the Department of Trade and Industry through its Micro-enterprise Development Project, Cooperative Development Authority, and Department of Agrarian Reform.
Integrated Farming Technology System through Sloping Agricultural Land Technology (SALT) and Nature Farming Technology System (NFTS) - This capability was initially acquired through trainings imparted by the Mindanao Baptist Rural Life Center (MBRLC) in Bansalan, Davao del Sur and Technology Assistance Center for Development and Rural Progress (TACDRUP) in Inawayan, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur. It was implemented through the foundations trial farm then shared to the 1,050 marginalized farmers (SALT) and 5 cooperatives (NFTS) in Dinagat Island .
Early Childhood Education - REESFI believes that among the factors for sustainability is on the awareness and preparedness of the generations to come. It integrates development concepts through its academic and non-academic curricula for children. Likewise, it also involves parents through Parents Teachers Forum-PTF whereby the relevance of children to sustainable development is always emphasized through its agenda during monthly meeting. Thus, REESFI Child Care Center is now on its fifth year in providing pre-school education and training of potential pre-school teachers and youth facilitators. Skills and capability of the teachers was acquired through special training conducted by the University of the Philippines in Davao City and Montessori School in Cebu City . Currently, REESFI Child Care Center produced 450 pre-school graduates.
Rural Infrastructure Support Projects - The foundation also earned experience in implementing rural infrastructure support projects such as; San Jose Potable Water System through the Presidential Management Staff; water system of Barangays Cuarenta, Luna through DOH-World Bank assisted; water system and sanitary toilets in Barangays Puerto Pricesa, Villa Ecleo, Navarro, Diegas and Barangay Health Station in Barangay Sta. Monica in the Municipality of Basilisa through DOH-AusAid Assisted project.
Alliance , Linkages - Aside from organizing ARBs and its support structures, one of the mandates for the strengthening and institutionalizing the Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries was to access external physical, financial, and technical resources. These expertise was among the legacies of the Department of Agrarian Reform to the foundation through its trainings, seminars and workshops through UNFAO-TSARRD. Eventually, REESFI itself is a member of Surigao del Norte NGO Coalition for Development; accredit to the national office of the Cooperative Development Authority, Local Government Units of 7 municipalities in Dinagat Island and the Province of Surigao del Norte , Department of Health and other agencies with collaboration on special projects. For its clients/beneficiaries, the foundation assisted the organization of DIFECO, NARACO, and coordination to concerned offices/agencies like CDA, LGUs, DOH, and others related to their initiatives.
Local Governance - Facilitated the integration of community plans to Barangay Development Plans with the representations of community organizations to the Barangay Development Councils and other Local Special Bodies. This is regularly performed by the foundation with its client organizations/cooperatives much more on special projects as that of ICHSP-AA and PCHD-PHDP.
Other Skills/Competence - With its involvement to the special projects of DENR the foundation proven its potential capability in implementing the 200 hectares watershed reforestation project at barangay Cuarenta, San Jose , Surigao del Norte. Aside from its involvement to the regular project of DILG in evaluating the performance of the local barangay officials, local governance and gender development is integrated to its CO-OD activities.
