Brief History
The Ruben E. Ecleo, Sr. Foundation, Inc. was organized primarily to continue the noble tasks, charitable and evolving endeavors of the late Mayor Ruben E. Ecleo, Sr. of Dinagat, Surigao del Norte. As a nationalist, mysterious and legendary leader and founder of the Philippine Benevolent Missionaries Association, Inc. (PBMA, Inc.) the late Mayor Ecleo had always worked and aspired for man's social, economic, cultural and spiritual upliftment.
For the greater part of his 52 inspired and meaningful years, he devoted almost an entire lifetime for the guiding and nurturing of the people in their ultimate quest of attaining their fullest possible spiritual and material development. This he was doing continually until he met his untimely demise on December 20, 1987 .
The idyllic town of San Jose , in Dinagat Island , Surigao del Norte stands as one of his enduring legacies. He also left behind millions of PBMA members, 12 socio-civic organizations, 38 Cooperatives, who were at once committed, and technologically equipped to advance his cause for a progressive, peaceful and pollution-free planet.
It is essentially within this context therefore, that the Ruben E. Ecleo, Sr. Foundation, Inc. was created. It serves as a means of service and provides necessary management and coordinative support to all those who want to participate, illustrate ownership and live with the vision and virtue of the late Mayor Ruben E. Ecleo, Sr.
After December 20, 1987 , his key development movers/staff were inspired by his dream for his people. Behind their agony for his lost, the key officials and development enthusiasts PBMA (the association he organized) members were on the state of finding means and mechanism in pursuing and institutionalizing his love and commitment to his people through the tasks, projects and activities he started. It was then, where the foundation was organized with the pledges of caring and sharing among the people who want to get involved with the development programs left by the late Mayor Ruben E. Ecleo, Sr.
The Foundation was organized and established through its SEC Registration No. 175281 on March 19, 1990 under its former name, PBMA Development Foundation, Inc. On October 4, 1992 , its Articles of Incorporation and By-laws were amended by the majority of the Board of Trustees and approved by the SEC on November 1, 1992 with its new name, Ruben E. Ecleo, Sr. Foundation, Inc.
